Acharya Prashant, born Prashant Tripathi, is an Indian author and teacher associated with Advaita Vedanta. His work includes discussions of the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads, books, public lectures and recorded conversations. He is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad.[1]

Early life and education

His official biography records his birth in Agra on 7 March 1978. It describes his years at IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad, an interest in Hindi poetry and participation in theatre. These interests form part of his account of the period before full-time teaching.[2]

Penguin Random House India identifies him as a former civil-services officer as well as a graduate of the two institutions. His later public career is centred on writing and teaching rather than a continuing administrative appointment.[1]

Teaching and the foundation

He founded the PrashantAdvait Foundation. The organisation describes its work as arranging discourses, online and in-person sessions, and recording and distributing talks through digital platforms. Volunteers support these activities. The foundation is the organisational setting for much of his teaching.[3]

His teaching addresses Vedantic texts alongside questions of daily life. The publisher's author profile lists love, marriage and parenting among the subjects of his books, in addition to commentaries on scripture. This connects his discussion of philosophy with relationships and personal choices.[1]

Books and public discussion

Penguin's catalogue names Karma, Ananda and Maya among his works on Vedanta. A book's particular edition and publisher identify the published work separately from recordings of talks and short video excerpts.[1]

In March 2025, IIM Bangalore's student Literature Club announced a guest lecture by him for 10 March. Its announcement identified environmental protection, animal rights, science and opposition to superstition among the subjects associated with his public work. The event provides a dated example of his engagement with a student audience.[4]

Animal rights and environmental themes

Alongside his treatment of scripture, his public work includes advocacy concerning animals and the environment. The IIM Bangalore announcement describes these concerns as part of his wider activity. They extend his public discussions beyond the interpretation of individual philosophical texts.[4]
